Additional Information for Bishopric Members
1) By Sunday, 22 Sep 2024, please provide a ward FSY Rep that the stake can communicate with. Provide this information to President Bernkopf.
2) By Sunday, 29 Sep 2024, please go into LCR > Membership > FSY Conferences and approve youth to attend. We should be liberal in our approvals if youth meet these six criteria (a-f). Please direct any questions to President Bernkopf.
All youth participating in an FSY conference must meet the following requirements:
Youth must be no younger than 14 by December 31 of the year the participant attends and no older than 18 by the end of the session they plan to attend.
Youth must strive to follow the principles taught in For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices and be willing to follow the FSY Conference Standards and Policies.
Youth must not have committed or be suspected of committing a sexual offense felony, whether convicted or not.
In addition to the requirements above, youth attending in-person sessions must meet the following requirements:
Youth must stay with their group and be able to safely participate in person at an FSY conference. Please see FSY Conference Accessibility for more information.
Youth must be able to self-regulate behaviorally, socially, and emotionally and be capable of managing their personal safety and mental and physical health.
Youth must be fully recovered from any hospitalization for mental health, inpatient treatment, self-harm, or suicidal-related behaviors. Youth who have attempted suicide or who have ongoing struggles with self-harm or suicidal ideation should likely attend a virtual FSY conference rather than an in-person FSY conference. The bishopric member submitting approvals must speak with his stake president and the youth’s parents or guardians before approving in-person FSY conference attendance for youth who have a history or ongoing struggles with these challenges.
Youth must not be on probation or parole for any crime. If a bishopric member would like to approve a youth on probation or parole to attend an FSY session, he must contact FSY conferences and receive permission to do so (1-800-453-3860, extension 2-1911).
Youth must have a parent or guardian or a designated adult willing and available to pick them up from FSY at any time within 2.5 hours of notice, unless the youth utilized travel provided by FSY, in which case other arrangements may be required.
